In 1990, Manchester Street was a different place and Luton was a different town. Asif opened a small chicken shop with a flame grill at the back, a fryer at the front, and one idea: cook everything when it's ordered, not before.
Thirty-five years later the street has changed around him and the idea hasn't. Chicken is marinated overnight and grilled when the ticket prints. Southern fried pieces are breaded by hand and dropped when you order. Nothing sits under a lamp waiting for someone to want it.
The sauce he won't write down.
Ask anyone in Luton about Tasty's and they'll mention the chilli dip before the chicken. Asif made the first batch in the shop's first week and he's made it the same way since: in-house, in small batches, to a recipe that lives in his head and nowhere else. It's thick, glossy and properly hot, and it goes in every bag for free because that's how it's always gone.
"People say I should bottle it. I say come in and I'll give you a pot."Asif, owner [CONFIRM quote]
Real peri peri. Real flame.
Peri peri at Tasty's means bird's-eye chilli, lemon, garlic and time. The heat is built in the baste, not painted on after, and you choose it: Lemon & Herb, Mild, Hot or Extra Hot. The char comes from the grill. The grill is real flame. That's it.
Halal, always.
Every piece of chicken and meat is halal and always has been. It isn't a sticker on the window, it's how the shop was opened.
Why order direct.
You won't find Tasty's on the delivery apps, and that's on purpose. They take a cut of every meal and keep the customer at arm's length. This site is Asif's way of doing it: order from the shop, pay shop prices, get the free dip, and earn rewards as one of Tasty's Taste Buds. The money stays on Manchester Street.
